Last weekend i got enough time to install Windows 7 Beta 1 Build 7000 and here are some of my first impressions.
The installation takes just over 22 minutes and in about 24 minutes you are ready to start working. The DVD is about 2.4 GB. I tried to Install windows 7 on my Macbook pro with 2.33 GHz T7600 Core 2 duo, with 2 Gb ram and ATI Mobility Radeon x1600 on a intel 945E chipset.
The Installation process is same as Vista installation, but looks much faster. The OS generally feels like a bit improved and tweaked version of Vista. The freshly installed Windows 7 was as fast as vista, but after installing some stuffs, it got little slow down. ( not like vista !! ).
In My case , Windows 7 needs just 1.3 GB of Hard Disk memory.
NOD32 and Kaspersky 8 antivirus Just works fine on Windows 7 32bit Beta 1 version and some hardware drivers like audio, graphics installed automatically.I tried some games like FIFA 09, Crysis Warhead, etc which works smoother in Medium graphics. But i can feel the difference between playing games in windows vista and windows 7. I vote for seVen !!
Overall, Windows 7 looks nice i noticed that it is a improved version of Vista. The Aero interface is slightly improved over Vista.
The Start menu is a bit changed and it works faster than vista. I liked the new dedicated Shut Down Button which is the better idea ! I remember that some of my friends asking about shutting down their PC's in vista !! It was so fun !!!
There is a new performance rating system and 7.9 looks to be a highest number. I was stuck with 2.0 rating because of caching system in windows 7. I already found the solution and i got a base score of 4.9 !!!
Another important thing i found is, with fresh installation , Windows 7 will take some 600 MB of RAM in my macbook pro ( 2 GB ) and 300 MB in my Acer 5500Z ( 1 GB ). Windows 7 gives good performance in 1 GB ram. Im so happy :)
I really liked the New taskbar and the UAC settings.
Finally, Thank you Microsoft !!!
